Africa Centre Ireland
www.africacentre.ieAfrica Centre is a charitable and non-profit Irish organization founded in 2000 by members of the African diaspora community in Ireland. The founders wanted the community to be active and have a voice in Irish society. The African diaspora communities in Ireland represent, in themselves, the variety of a vast continent with its own rich cultural diversity. The growing presence of these communities produced a need to provide a voice for the growing number of Africans in Ireland and this is what the Africa Centre community participation is all about. Since its formal launch in October 2001, the Africa Centre has made great strides. The Africa Centre has promoted and encouraged the development of initiatives that explain African diaspora concerns to a wider audience. Simultaneously these encourage the linkages and strategies that enable new African diaspora communities in Ireland to address their needs. Our aim is to facilitate the meaningful inclusion of African diaspora in all social, political and economic aspects of life in Ireland and to engage in shaping development policy and activities on the African continent. The vision is a just, tolerant and inclusive society that recognizes and values the mutual benefits of inclusion and participation. The organisation four strategic objectives are: Objective 1: To facilitate the African Diaspora community participation in Ireland. Objective 2: Promote the inclusion of multiple African perspectives in development education discourse, policy and practice in Ireland and at European level Objective 3: Engage in informing development policy in Ireland and in African countries Objective 4: To facilitate development activities in Africa targeting areas covered in the Sustainable Development Goals, but mainly targeting activities related to migration and development.
