As part of the RWTH Aachen University the institute of Highway Engineering Aachen (ISAC) has been acknowledged and recognized for ist work in both basic and applied research for many years. Research at ISAC encompasses the fields of Road Construction Technolgy, traffic engineering and tunnel engineering, thus enabling a holistic view of raods from construction to use. By participating in projects, in the field of basic research and applied research, ISAC makes an active contribution to the future of roads, tunnels and mobility. During those projects ISAC cooperates with other research institutes as well as industrial partners. In addition, ISAC has a materials testing center for road construction as well as an independent calibration laboratory certified by the German Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) for SRT pendulum devices and outflow meters according to Moore.
