Rainforest Connection (RFCx)
www.rfcx.orgAcoustic data is unique. Almost all species make noise — insects, mammals, amphibians, birds and reptiles. Threats like illegal logging, poaching and mining also make noise. Acoustics are the best way to understand the creatures that inhabit our living planet and the activities that threaten it on a scale impossible with any other type of data. As such, RFCx has built the connective tissue to make acoustics a scalable worldwide approach to data collection and analysis for conservation management. Our platform, including biodiversity analysis tools, threat detection tools and a suite of hardware, enables global partners, governments, corporations, scientists and ecologists to truly understand impacts on ecosystems and guide conservation management. The platform provides a modern, user-friendly interface for exploring, visualizing, and monitoring ecoacoustics to extract insights on species, ecosystems and interventions. It reduces the need for users to perform manual annotation by supporting data sharing, file upload from outside platforms, rapid one-shot-learning algorithms and collaboration capacities. The RFCx team includes PhD conservation biologists with decades of experience using acoustics to monitor species for conservation, and an experienced tech development team. We are building a worldwide platform for ecoacoustics, and are expanding our reach in order to establish projects around the world where local communities’ land is severely threatened.
