Review into the Future for Local Government
www.futureforlocalgovernment.govt.nzThe Review into the Future for Local Government is an independent Ministerial review established in April 2021 to consider how New Zealand’s system of local democracy and governance will need to evolve over the next 30 years, in order to improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders, and actively embody the Treaty partnership. The review is taking place in three stages, and will involve engagement with local and central government, iwi, the business sector, community organisations, young people, and the wider public. The three stages are: Early soundings (complete), broader engagement (current stage), and formal consultation and final report (2022 to 2023). We are currently in the engagement phase of the review, where we will be actively seeking a diverse range of views as we develop our recommendations for the future of local governance and democracy. We are committed to being open to what we hear. We’re ready to be challenged and to engage in hard conversations. While we welcome your comments and interactions online, please note that we will not tolerate racism, hate speech, or any harmful behaviour on our social media. Any such comments will be deleted. We may block repeat offenders. Please see our full transparency statement on our website: https://bit.ly/3D0B8iN For enquiries, please see our website or contact futureforlg@dia.govt.nz.
