Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) is the international franchise holder for the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Sport Movement in Canada, and an active, contributing member of the Canadian sport community. Led by its volunteer Board and supported by professional staff, CSC is committed to the strengthening sport in Canada and throughout the Commonwealth. As the host of the first Commonwealth Games (Hamilton – 1930), Canadians have always had a special relationship with the Commonwealth Games. Our Commonwealth tradition, national pride and common Canadian values embodied in the Canadian athletes striving for success strike a chord with all Canadians. Since its inception, CSC has a rich history as an important Canadian sport leader and occupies an important position within the Canadian sport landscape. CSC has always had a profound and unique impact on Canadian sport, rooted in its innovative, values-based and athlete centered approach to policy and decision making. As the Commonwealth’s major sporting event, the Commonwealth Games, which began in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) in 1930, focus on fair play and friendliness in a world where ethnic, religious, and cultural differences are used increasingly as pretexts for confrontation and division. Celebrating our differences, the Commonwealth Games combat prejudice, fear, and racism. CSC exists to support our country’s participation in this unique competition and is also a leader in sport and development internationally.
