FANS was established in 1998 as a not-for-profit organisation and is successfully promoting the French language and culture on the North Shore of Sydney. The main activity of the association is the operation of the bilingual program at Killarney Heights Public School (KHPS), which has been in place since 1999. FANS employs admin staff members as well as French teachers; and is supported by volunteers. The Association relies on the parents' contributions, fundraising activities and sponsors of our annual French Market. The Association reports to an elected committee of parents. It also runs a successful curriculum of French classes for teenagers and a social calendar of activities. In 2012, the bilingual program of the Killarney Heights Public School was granted the “Label FrancEducation”, a formal recognition by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its excellence, renewed successfully since.
