CLTS Foundation

www.cltsfoundation.org

The CLTS Foundation was formed by the pioneer of Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Dr. Kamal Kar, to meet the growing demand for a common global platform for practitioners, trainers and users of CLTS. The Foundation works closely with associates and practitioners of CLTS in different countries. It bridges the gaps between the various development actors who have taken up CLTS in the last decade. The Foundation is based in India but works across many countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America providing capacity building, advocacy and knowledge management support. The Foundation has also been active in producing print and electronic materials on CLTS. The CLTS approach is spread across 70 countries in South and South-East Asia, Africa and Latin America. At least 35 countries have CLTS as part of their national policies. CLTS Foundation strives to create a world free from open defecation. What we do? Technical Assistance and Capacity Building:- Strengthen the capacity and provide programme support to key sanitation actors to institutionalize and scale up CLTS implementation with quality. CRAP Tool:- Conduct rapid assessments of the CLTS practice on the ground enabling the key stakeholders to strategize ways to enhance the effectiveness of intervention through innovative tools like CLTS Rapid Appraisal Protocol (CRAP) developed by CLTS Foundation and UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office. Institutional Triggering and Advocacy:- Facilitate triggering of institutional actors to influence policy and effective program implementation at the highest levels of decision-making within government and non-governmental agencies. Developing Knowledge Products:- Develop knowledge materials based on different contextual experiential learning such as working papers, case studies, training guides, handbooks, implementation manuals and training audio-visual material.
