John Hopton commenced his accounting career as a trainee with the Newcastle based practice of R C Vidal & Co. in 1958. R C Vidal & Co. was established in the 1920’s and later changed name to K A Vidal & Co. on the retirement of Mr R C Vidal. After 13 years working in the practice John took over in 1971 and continued to operate from the same premises at 57 Hunter Street Newcastle. Due to the ongoing growth a larger office space was required, so along with fellow Newcastle accounting firm Jabour Accountants, the current premise at 53 King Street Newcastle was acquired in 1994. The firm continued to operate as John W Hopton Chartered Accountant up until 2008 when the practice was incorporated as John W Hopton Pty Ltd. The majority of John’s client base is long standing clients that have been with the practice for well over 10 years. The oldest business client that is still operating can be dated back to the 1930’s when the practice was run by R C Vidal & Co. This well known business has been passed down through 3 generations of the same family in the Hunter Valley and continues to operate successfully. John has always operated on the basis of providing all clients a personal approach and fair value for his services.
