Iracambi Rainforest Research and Conservation
www.iracambi.comIracambi Conservation and Research (Iracambi) is a Brazilian registered non-profit (also registered in the US as a 501c3) located in one of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots: Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Our objective is to figure out better ways of forest care and protect our extraordinary biodiversity while generating forest-based incomes and raising living standards for local communities. Every year we host dozens of researchers, students and volunteers from across the world who come together to tackle some of the thorniest problems facing the human family today - biodiversity conservation, sustainability, and climate change. We create unorthodox partnerships try, fail, and try again until we find solutions. And then we put them to work. Our vision is saving forests and changing lives. Our model: providing opportunity and letting learning happen. We're restoring forests to provide habitat for endangered species, to protect and enrich our soils and water, to preserve and enhance the livelihoods of the people who live here, and to store carbon and mitigate the effects of climate change. We're changing lives of young leaders in Brazil and beyond, through our ongoing programs in forest restoration, environmental monitoring and agroecology. Our education programs serve both local schoolchildren and international graduates, undergraduates and non-traditional students of all ages. We're changing lives for local farmers by sharing information and practical experiences on agroforestry and sustainable production methods, and we're changing lives for local women by encouraging them to become social entrepreneurs. We're creating and implementing sound environmental policies at local, regional and state level, planting trees and planting ideas, living and learning in a vibrant community of people who come to Iracambi to save the forest and leave to change the world.
