Founder, Alan G. Schmitt, came to the Keys in 1955 where he worked as general manager for a large developer. Here they sold lots for $1,000 and homes for $8,000. Soon after, Alan became the exclusive broker for one of the large developers in the area. Alan started Schmitt Real Estate co and his son Brian founded the Coldwell Banker Schmitt Real Estate Co. Alan has been appraising full time since 1983. Alan is the past president of the Marathon Board of Realtors; Charter President of the Florida Keys Chapter of the National Society of Fee Appraisers; past President of the Marathon Jaycees; senior member of the American Society of Appraisers; founding member of the National Association of Realtors, Appraiser Section; and general accredited appraiser of the National Association of Realtors.
