Giverny's Museum of Impressionisms? This is a surprising name for an institution. Impressionism is therefore plural and can be declined? The answer is yes ! This museum, created in 2009 following the American Art Museum, presents Impressionism in the large sense and explores the beginnings and consequences of this movement. The very place of the museum gives its meaning to this mission: built on a hill, “the hillside”, where Claude Monet stayed to paint his famous “Meules” in the 1890s. The building, designed by the architect Philippe Robert in 1992, was ahead of its time: by blending into the landscape, it combines light and nature, wandering and softness. The architect and landscape designer Mark Rudkin designed a very original French-style garden, labeled " jardin remarquable ". In 2020, the garden becomes the setting for a first contemporary work. At the Giverny museum, inside and out: art dialogues with nature. Thanks to its quality exhibitions, its collection of impressionist and contemporary works, its rich and varied program, its auditorium, its shop and its restaurant, Giverny's Museum of Impressionisms welcomes nearly 200,000 visitors each year.
