Community Health Initiative, Haiti
www.chihaiti.orgThe Community Health Initiative (CHI), works in solidarity to create healthy, empowered and self-directed communities in Haiti, until the work is done! Founded in 2012, CHI has celebrated several milestones as a not-for-profit organization! Most importantly, as we work alongside both medical and non medical persons from both the US and Haiti, we have the opportunity truly make a difference in two main ways. Nearly 200 CHI volunteers travel to Haiti 7 times a year. Teams of 30 medical and non-medical volunteers return to the same communities in Haiti 5 times a year to set up an outdoor medical clinic. Two times each year, a surgical team joins the medical team to conduct necessary procedures, working in a very nicely furnished operating facility! Beyond the clinics, CHI hires Haitian staff to follow up and educate the communities we serve. Community Health Workers walk alongside expecting mothers, training on safe birthing practices. Quality Control Workers focus on the importance of clean water in the homes, and our Recycling Center helps clean up the environment by offering the to "Turn Trash into Cash!" (plastic and aluminum).
