When the Apple Valley Medical Center opened its doors in 1974, just six short months after Apple Valley officially became a city, Reader’s Digest called it “the wave of the future in the suburbs.” Four physicians who helped guide the initial development of the Apple Valley Medical Clinic include: Peter Frederixon, MD; E. John English, MD; David Widdifield, MD; and David Maas, MD. They established objectives that set the medical center on a path for growth, vowing to: - provide high quality, comprehensive care for south suburban patients; -build a team of family practice physicians committed to meeting the ongoing health care needs of patients and their families; - ensure easily accessible and readily available medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week; -create a relationship with each patient and the community itself, based on integrity, involvement and communication. In 1990, the facility expanded to include a specialty center operated by United Hospital, a full-service pharmacy and a physical medicine and rehabilitation area. In the spring of 2007, following a significant expansion, the Apple Valley Medical Center added 20,000 square feet of space, providing 50 percent more space in the Apple Valley Medical Clinic, Urgent Care and the United Specialty Center, including 35 new exam rooms. The pharmacy doubled in size, and United Medical Imaging was added to provide on-site digital mammography, ultrasound, CT and MRI scanning.
