Basketball KATA
www.kungfubasketball.comFor those of us in the Oil & Gas Industry, it can become a 24 hour a day job and all-consuming. Life is better when we have varied interests. I have always loved food, travel, martial arts & basketball. I played basketball my entire life and for my college. Shooting was always my strength & I have continued practicing & studying shooting techniques. After many years, I realized that I should combine what I learned in martial arts, and in mechanical engineering, to what I knew about shooting a basketball. I had typically been able to shoot between 20 and 50 free throws in a row and maybe 10 three-pointers in a row. After a few months of figuring out how to approach shooting as I did katas in Karate, as well as adding I some rules of mechanical engineering (the human body is a largely mechanical device & the rules for properly shooting a ball must be approached mechanically). I quickly was able to typically shoot between 50 and 150 free throws in a row and between 12 & 40 three-pointers in a row. I’ve hit as many as 462 free throws in a row and 96 out of 100 three-pointers. I then started teaching the techniques I learned to high school and college players, as well as some younger players. The results have been excellent. Using my kung fu basketball shooting technique, I am able to hit many shots in a row even rebounding my own shots, which is much more difficult than when somebody else rebounds the shots and passes the ball back.
