The Algernon Project

Our Mission: To eradicate the misdiagnosis of individuals affected by FTD by utilizing a machine learning algorithm to streamline the patient diagnosis journey Founded by Dr. Benjamin Allen, Ph.D., the Algernon Project is currently working to raise awareness for this technology and to see its algorithm adopted by medical imaging devices across the globe. Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) is a form of early onset dementia caused by atrophy in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. Diagnosis takes an average of 4 years for those affected... which is a statistic the Algernon Project hopes to drastically improve. Due to the rarity and subtle nature of the initial atrophy, as many as 80% of patients receive a misdiagnosis within the first two years of symptom onset. The Algernon algorithm seeks to augment the skilled clinical practitioners' observations by notifying the examiner of the presence of atypical atrophy. Once adopted, The Algernon Project will thus assist the medical community and affected families by mitigating the risk of misdiagnosis for early onset dementias like FTD and enabling better, quicker care from the patient's care team and treating physicians. We envision a world free from misdiagnosis for those affected by FTD. Get involved by donating at our website or contacting Dr. Allen via LinkedIn. algernon.my.canva.site https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-benjamin-allen/
