Rainier Scholars serves motivated and hard working low-income students of color who will be the first in their family to earn a college degree. We offer access to educational opportunities and a framework of comprehensive support to increase college graduation rates and develop new generations of leaders. Rainier Scholars envisions a legacy of successful and inspiring leaders who make a positive impact in the Puget Sound region and beyond through: - Greater number of diverse students successfully graduating from top-tier colleges - Increased diverse pool of qualified candidates for high-level leadership roles - Increased number of families of color who become consumers of education Rainier Scholars is now in its 16th year of program operation. Founded in 2000 by Bob Hurlbut and based on the successful program model in NYC Prep for Prep, Rainier Scholars is the only comprehensive college prep program serving promising students of color in the greater Seattle area. We believe that a college degree provides critical training for and access to full participation in the workforce and opportunities to be leaders in our community. A college degree greatly increases an individual’s chance at economic self-sufficiency creating a ripple effect felt by generations to come.
