Sanctuary One

Sanctuary One at Double Oak Farm is the first known "care farm" of its kind in the United States--a model that is prevalent throughout Europe. The care farm is an animal sanctuary on a working permaculture farm, where visitors and volunteers are encouraged to actively engage with the animals and the land. Unlike other animal preserves that keep the animals separate from people and each other, Sanctuary One believes that animals, people, and the earth heal better together. You'll find domestic farm animals such as horses, llamas, pigs, cows, sheep, goats, geese, and ducks all together in the pastures at Double Oak Farm, as well as rescued cats and dogs in their own dedicated clubhouses. Here, these animals find a safe and caring home to relax, heal, and perhaps, retire. Elderly, disabled, chronically ill, and emotionally traumatized animals who may never be adoptable receive the personal attention and permanent safe haven they require. And often, too, they turn over a new leaf and find adoption through the Sanctuary.
