Willingsford has developed a new treatment for wounds, ulcers and burns. It is based on micropore particle technology or MPPT, which disrupts the weaponry of bacteria and fungi whereby the immune system regains contol of the wound and the healing process. MPPT therefore functions as a passive immunotherapy. MPPT is not antimicrobial and will not contribute to or be limited by antibiotic resistance. In a comparative clinical study MPPT was shown to remove wound infections 60% quicker than antibiotics and antiseptics and to reduce hospitalisation days by 31%. In a clinical audit at Bristol University Hospital, MPPT initiated healing of dehisced surgical wounds in 4-5 days, compared to standared-of-care which consists of UrgoClean for 1 week and NPWT for 2-more weeks. Cost savings were estimated at 69.5%. MPPT has been able to promote healing of chronic diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and trauma wounds, which had not responded to anything. No adverse events or allergies have been observed. MPPT is available as the CE-marked products, Amicapsil and Acapsil for wounds; and Aprobaxil for wounds associated with dermatological conditions, e.g. acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and hidradenitis suppurativa. MPPT is also available for veterinary use, where SertaSil is for wounds and Adinasil for wounds associated with dermatologial conditions, e.g. allergy, eczema.
