IWAI is a statutory body which looks after development & maintenance of national waterways in India. The Authority primarily undertakes projects for development and maintenance of IWT infrastructure on national waterways through grant received from Ministry of Shipping. Its Head Office is in Noida while regional offices are in Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati and Kochi. There are several sub-offices located in the cities of Allahabad, Varanasi, Farakka, Sahibganj, Haldia, Swroopganj, Hemnagar, Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Silchar, Kollam, Bhubaneshwar and Vijayawada.
