ALTA (www.alta.aero), formerly AITAL (International Association of Latin American Air Transport) was founded in Bogota, Colombia, on April 8th, 1980 upon the initiative of 12 flag carriers to join and coordinate the efforts of its members to facilitate the solution of the problems of international air transport in Latin America and strengthen the collaboration and communication between its members for the mutual benefit of air transport in the region and its users.
