The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) was founded in 1851 and is the federal weather service of Austria. ZAMG is operating the national meteorological network of Austria, therein weather forecast, climate documentation and climate research are legal missions of ZAMG. The ZAMG's area of responsibility includes all activities of a national meteorological and geophysical service and can be summarized as follows: Collecting, processing and maintenance of data-basis of meteorological and geophysical investigations. Information, expert and advisory work. Dealing with relevant meteorological and geophysical questions of environmental protection. Information, advice and warning in the event of crises, incidents, natural and environmental disasters. Work on the climatological and geophysical land survey of Austria. Basic and application-oriented research in the field of meteorology, geophysics, environment, and natural hazards. Cooperation with national and international institutions in basic and application-oriented research. ZAMG’s experts represent Austria in numerous international organizations and associations such as WMO, ECMWF, EUMETSAT, ORFEUS, EMSC, IUGG, ESC, and GEO.
