Mission: The Center for Arts in Medicine advances education and research in the field of arts in health, while leading outreach efforts to promote art and creativity as catalysts for healthy lifestyles. Academics: The Center's faculty actively engage in research and creative practice to further the evidence base for the many applications of the arts, in both healthcare and public health, and to inform their instruction. Beyond the classroom, faculty also mentor students in outreach programs including service-learning and study abroad. The online graduate program includes: The Master of Arts (MA) in Arts in Medicine, and Graduate Certificate in Arts in Medicine. The undergraduate program offers Certificates in Arts in Medicine, Dance in Medicine, and Music in Medicine. History: The Center for Arts in Medicine formed at the University of Florida in 1995 when our founders Dr. John Graham-Pole, Dr. Rusti Brandman, and Jill Sonke, developed the nation's first university level coursework in the arts in healthcare. Building on the groundbreaking clinical work of our partner program, UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine, the Center formally established an educational unit at UF in 1999. Today, the Center forms a part of the UF College of the Arts and provides a framework for interdisciplinary collaboration among UF faculty and students; healthcare providers; and creative artists in health settings within the local & global communities. Through its programming and curriculum, the Center serves as a national and international model for arts in medicine research, education, and outreach.
