At KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, we have demonstrated that all students can learn and achieve at high levels if given the opportunity. KIPP is a national, non-profit network of more than 200 college-preparatory, public charter schools serving more than 100,000 students. KIPP began in 1994 when two teachers started a fifth grade public school program for underserved students in Houston, TX. KIPP Ujima Village Academy middle school was founded in 2002 in Baltimore; in 2009, KIPP Harmony Academy elementary school was launched. Both Baltimore schools now provide transformational educational opportunities for more than 1,500 kindergarten through eighth grade students and over 1,400 alumni. For nearly two decades, KIPP Baltimore has prepared our students to be successful in college and in life. In addition to supporting our students to be academically excellent, we make a long-term investment in them both while they are in school and beyond through the KIPP Through College (KTC) program. KTC is a program that supports KIPP alumni in gaining admission to college-preparatory high schools and helps them stay on the path to and through graduation from colleges and universities. More than 90 percent of our alumni have graduated from high school and more than 70 percent have matriculated to college. We are committed to continuing to partner with other local education, health, and community organizations to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths necessary to lead choice-filled lives.
