In June 2020, Susan Jaffe, a former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer declared by the New York Times to be “America’s quintessential American ballerina,” became PBT’s seventh artistic director. Ms. Jaffe’s prolific career as an internationally acclaimed dancer, ballet mistress, choreographer and dean of dance at a university, has set the stage for a new evolution of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Ms. Jaffe’s inaugural 2021-2022 Season will reveal an exciting repertoire of innovation and creativity with programs filled with new commissions and current works by prominent choreographers that have moved the art form forward in the 21st century, while emphasizing diverse voices and excellence in the classics.
