RECETOX
recetox.muni.czRECETOX (Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment) is an independent department of the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno, which has been established in 1983. Currently, the centre encompasses four research divisions, 22 principle investigators, over 170 research staff and operates three research infrastructures. RECETOX is focused on the research and education in cross-cutting area of Environment and Health. It addresses interactions among chemicals, environment, and biological systems, including consequences at local, regional, and global levels. New approaches to study environmental distribution, transport, bioaccumulation, and effects of contaminants are being developed incorporating human exposure and risk assessment, pharmacokinetic modelling, biostatics, and informatics. Complementary expertise necessary for assessment of multiple (not only environmental) factors affecting human health is being developed as well (e.g. addressing metabolom, microbiom, epigenom). RECETOX also provides a multidisciplinary education in the fields of environmental chemistry, toxicology, and computational biology in bachelor, master and doctoral study programmes. RECETOX serves as a Regional Centre of the Stockholm Convention for capacity building and technology transfer in Central and Eastern Europe and as the National Centre for Persistent Organic Pollutants, which provides expert support, coordinates, and implements goals and targets featured in action plans of the National Implementation Plan of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Czech Republic.
