Innovators for Purpose
www.innovatorsforpurpose.orgInnovators for Purpose (iFp) is a nonprofit that helps youth, especially those residing in underserved / under-resourced communities, to develop their skills and identity as innovators capable of solving the world’s most complex problems. Using an approach that leverages cutting-edge practices in Higher Ed and Industry - coupled with a fundamental belief that skill follows will, we have developed a learning framework called Integrated Creative Problem Solving (iCps) that attracts all students, including those who have not yet self-selected STEM. iCps at its core is a mash-up of Design Thinking, Purpose Learning and Professional Identity Development that empowers students to take one step towards solving BIG problems they deeply care about. Over time, students FLIP from passive observers to active participants – becoming Creative Doers who change, improve and leave their mark on the world. The exact kind of leaders needed in today’s economy. Key Initiatives iFp Saturdays | Where Potential and Opportunity Meet - Introduces youth to people, places and opportunities in the innovation economy. On 15 Saturdays from Sep to May, students explore the intersections of Design, Science, Technology and Business. Students participate in activities with professionals from local innovation-driven businesses and colleges including MIT and Harvard. Emphasis is placed on developing a sense of belonging in the innovation community. Robots & Society (piloted Summer 2016) - moves students grades 6-9 beyond building and programming robots to understanding how they can be used for the betterment of Society. Field-trips and speakers help students develop empathy for people with disabilities. Students are then challenged to imagine new ways for robotics to extend the capabilities of the disabled.
