Bike Dearborn is a grassroots organization that is dominating the bike advocacy efforts in Dearborn by focusing on creating a safe bicycling community and culture. Bike Dearborn not only promotes the recreational use of biking but the sustainable and equitable sides of bicycling as a form of transportation as well. The healthy benefits of biking for Dearborn residents and environmental sustainability are integral elements of the organization. Within just three years Bike Dearborn created a movement with the goal of creating a bicycle-friendly City. The weekly Healthy Dearborn Walk n’ Rolls, organizing numerous special community rides, and promoting local business involvement within the biking culture are just a few of the things they do. Bike Dearborn efforts have been instrumental in achieving the following accomplishments: - City of Dearborn, 2018 Governor's Fitness Award for Active Communities; - In January of 2018, the City of Dearborn kicked off its Multi-Modal Transportation Plan; - In 2017, the City of Dearborn passed a safety ordinance requiring motorists to provide 5 feet of clearance between bicyclists; - In 2016, the City of Dearborn passed bicycle parking requirements as part of its Zoning Ordinance; - A local entrepreneur funded a Zagster bike share system for 5 years and a bicycle lane along Outer Drive.
