'Up & About' is a patented device that attaches to any office chair and encourages workers to sit less and be more active in the workplace, improving their overall well-being. Research continues to mount showing sedentary workplace behaviours, more specifically, prolonged sitting is an emerging public health and occupational health issue with serious implications for the health of our working population. Prolonged sitting is linked to premature mortality, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders and risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease as well as the mounting evidence which shows further correlation to decreased productivity, increased medical and workers compensation costs for businesses. 'Up & About' is a simple yet effective product which addresses this problem for both businesses and individuals. Using a series of sensors the product is activated when an individual sits down - if an individual remains seated for a prolonged period a gentle vibration is sent through the chair to alert them it's time to get 'Up & About'.
