The Barrington Area Council on Aging promotes vibrant, healthy aging by providing programs and services to older adults and caregivers in the Barrington area. Annually, BACOA supports more than 1,200 individuals and their families requiring help with everything from critical program coordination to government assistance. BACOA programs and services include: Support Programs and Services BACOA social services and programs are critical since they support clients at a time when they are at their most vulnerable. A healthy social life is critical to aging well, but BACOA finds that many older adults isolate or sever social connections at a time when those connections are most important to one's overall well being. BACOA social services and programs keep participants engaged while helping reduce the stress illness brings. Support services include support groups for: Alzheimer's, Caregivers and Low Vision. Support programs include: "A Day Out" Respite Program, a social program for those with mild cognitive-related issues and for care partners need a break from caregiving responsibilities. Memory Cafe, a social program for people with mild cognitive-related issues and their care partners seeking opportunities to be together in a supportive environment. Critical Programming BACOA's critical programming ensues older adults receive vital care services when family or friends are absent or unavailable. Programs include: Case Management, which helps clients with medical issues and service coordination and Meals with Wheels, which ensures a nutritious meal is provided to those unable to prepare meals for themselves. Government Service Assistance BACOA has certified Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counselors and volunteers to assist older adults navigate issues relating to Medicare and other government services, including: prescription counseling, tax preparation, Medicaid and food stamps. Social and Well Programming Works to keeps older adults connected and engaged.
