That Māori and Indigenous whānau are able to attain Mana Motuhake in business, and in life. That they are thriving and resilient. 2 - What problem are we solving Māori small and medium businesses are struggling due to Covid-19, particularly in the BoP where the majority of whanau have lost employment due to all tourism being shut down. This is set to continue into 2021 with no sign of our borders opening anytime soon. To show the scale of the damage done by Covid-19 - in a report by the Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates (MRTE) - Rotorua made $104.8 million in visitor expenditure for the MONTH of January 2020. Total visitor expenditure in Rotorua was up $3.1 million or +3.0% growth (versus +4.8% nationally) over the same month of the previous year: domestic expenditure increased from $54.6 million to $59 million, BUT it is the international expenditure of $45.8 million that will have the greatest impact over this time. We were on the way to generate 1Billion dollars in tourism revenue this year, but instead, our town has lost $104.8 million in one hit. And that's just over one month. Add to that a loss of $750 million in International student revenue that we aren't going to see for a long while - and you have a community heading for more than 20% unemployment as the Treasury has predicted. Now multiply that across our nation. We need a mechanism to support Māori and even globally, an Indigenous network that supports our most vulnerable communities to determine their own futures, using a collective approach. 3- Mission “IndigiShare© aims to support whānau, through helping new and existing Māori SMEs access small loans through a crowdfunded loan platform based on a whānau to whānau structure.”
