The Indy Learning Team creates partnerships to unlock the key of lifelong success through early literacy learning. We work to end the generational cycle of shame and struggle associated with learning to read and write. We accomplish this by bringing effective literacy instruction and resources to families and establishing a reading culture in communities. - Year-Round Literacy Instruction Programs and Training: We partner with local Indianapolis community organizations to design, implement and monitor reading programs aimed at getting all students reading at grade level. - Reading Specialist Training: Some kids need specialized reading support to tackle learning challenges like dyslexia. Literacy intervention is expensive and less available in underserved communities, so we are training affordable experts ‘close to home’. - Preschool Reading Readiness: We partner with local Indianapolis preschools (targeting level 2-3) to implement and monitor reading readiness programs aimed at getting students ready for kindergarten - Full STEAM Ahead Literature Circles: We select diverse books paired with writing activities, discussion topics and additional video/podcast resources ensuring students build background knowledge and the love of reading. -Book Distribution: Access to appropriate printed materials is a proven, high-impact way to improve reading achievement. Books in the home support building a reading culture within families.
