The Human Rights Commission, COMISEDH is a non-profit civil association. IT has 38 years of experience in the defense and promotion of human rights and the affirmation of citizenship and democracy in Peru. COMISEDH carries out, for the fulfillment of its objectives, research actions, elaboration of proposals of norms and public policies, political advocacy, training, communication, education, legal assistance and citizen vigilance under gender, human rights and intercultural approaches. COMISEDH is founder of the National Coordinator of Human Rights (CNDDHH) in 1985. It is currently a member of its National Board of Directors. It is part of various inter-institutional networks and working groups agreed between civil society organizations and, some, also with the participation of State entities. Its scope of work is national, with emphasis on the central and southern Andean region of the country, whose population, with high levels of poverty and exclusion, is also the most affected by the internal armed conflict. It has two decentralized offices in Ayacucho: One in the capital and another in the peasant community of Santiago de Lucanamarca. Its main office is in Lima. In its national work, it has the cooperation of human rights organizations in the interior of the country and coordination networks. COMISEDH has a highly trained professional multidisciplinary team. 50% of its staff is bilingual Quechua-Spanish, especially in its decentralized headquarters in the Ayacucho region. More than half of its staff are women and several of them hold management positions.
