www.gsb.uct.ac.zaPower Futures Lab (PFL) is a leading centre of excellence and expertise for Africa and other emerging and developing economies. Based at the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business since 2001, PFL works to create enhanced knowledge and capability in key network infrastructures in Africa that promote economic development and improve social welfare within the bounds of environmental sustainability. PFL works on three fronts: 1. Education and training Providing specialised and relevant education and training through our PhD programme and through GSB executive education courses in partnership with leading international experts and local practitioners 2. Research Producing high-quality, multi-disciplinary applied research on the African power sector focused on three interrelated areas: • Policy, planning, procurement and risk mitigation programmes for accelerating power sector investments and improved outcomes • New power markets sparked by an energy transition that is seeing a greater share of renewable energy and distributed energy resources • Structural, governance and regulatory reforms for Improving power utility performance • Improving electricity access 3. Professional support and policy advocacy Using our academic base, knowledge and reputation to provide evidence-based advisory support and policy advocacy to government, regulators, utilities, finance institutions and development partners (incl. policy advice, technical assistance, research support, media engagements) as part of a broader social responsiveness agenda.
