The Glass Slipper Foundation
www.glassslipperfoundation.orgThe Glass Slipper Foundation (TGS), an entity of Vessels Interceding Sowing Into Our Nation (VISION Inc.), is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was inspired by a female adolescent who resided in a residential treatment. The VISION Inc. team visited the facility to provide the residents with winter coats which were collected in the community. Kaitlyn, who was a high school senior, expressed a desire to participate in senior activities with a special emphasis on the prom. Kaitlyn did not have the support of family members or friends to provide her with the resources to attend the event but was hopeful that she would still make it. The VISION team made her a promise to provide the things she needed to attend the prom. With that promise, The Glass Slipper Foundation evolved! TGS provides formal and semi-formal attire to female adolescents for their high school prom at no cost. With donations and partnerships in our community, we are able to give gowns, dresses, shoes, clutch bags, shawls, make-up and accessories to those who register for our Project Prom Dress: Shopping Day. Occasionally, we are also able to assist male adolescents with tuxedo rental certificates. TGS also provides group mentoring services to female adolescents in grades 6-8. Recently, our organization has developed a Youth Development and Prevention program in coordination with our mentoring services. This program offers workshops and conferences that address the challenges that youth face while providing coping mechanisms and skills to overcome those obstacles.
