Learning and Skills Improvement Service

www.lsis.org.uk

The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) was a sector-led body formed to accelerate quality improvement, increase participation and raise standards and achievement in the Further Education (FE) and Skills sector in England. LSIS ceased provding services to the further education and skills sector at the end of July 2013, as a result of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) announcing in November 2012, that they would cease to fund LSIS from July 2013. LSIS was very successful in its role of improving the teaching and learning offered by FE colleges and other training and skills providers. in 2012/13 alone we supported 97% of FE Colleges, 58% of independent learning providers, 76% of independent specialist colleges and 74% of sixth form colleges. LSIS was dedicated to working in partnership with all parts of the FE and Skills sector in order to build on the sector’s own capacity to design, commission and deliver improvement and strategic change as well as sustain self improvement. We were responsible for developing and providing resources that help colleges and providers implement initiatives and improve quality. This was achieved by commissioning products and services, identifying and sharing good practice throughout the system, and providing tailored programmes of support.
