The mission of GWERC, is to build broad-based alliances that stimulate financial investment to strengthen the Greater Whitehaven economic base. GWERC defines economic development as existing business expansion and assistance, job growth, recruitment of appropriate industries, workforce development, and advocacy for our residents and businesses. GWERC is committed to equitable community development in support of the Memphis 3.0 plan, and fully understands that improving Memphis’ competitiveness and achieving economic growth that is robust, shared, and enduring is fundamental to achieving the plan’s vision. As GWERC continues to drive sustainable economic revitalization, it will work closely with residents, businesses, churches, and agencies to help each group with their needs to accomplish business expansion, awareness, recruitment, training, job growth and placement and new development. Our boundaries are I-240 South (to the North); TN/MS Stateline (to the South); Swinnea Road (to the East); and U.S. Highway 61/Third Street (to the West).
