The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry
www.mountkiscofoodpantry.orgFood Distribution—Our Primary Mission! We offer a wide variety of free food items weekly. Clients choose what they need in amounts customized to family size. Our offerings include fresh produce, dairy, eggs, and bread; frozen meat and fish; and non-perishables. From the first client served to the last, we work hard to provide the same quality and variety of food to each person who comes to us for help. Nutrition Education Partnering with Feeding Westchester (food bank) and Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Pantry offers regular, on-site lectures and demonstrations designed to support client health and well-being. Presentation topics include nutrition, meal planning, food budgeting and safe food handling. Food preparation demonstrations include recipes that make use of the current Pantry food offerings and encourage healthier eating choices. Health Screenings In partnership with Northern Westchester Hospital's Community Health, Education & Outreach Program (CHOP), the Pantry offers free, on-site cholesterol, blood-sugar and blood-pressure screenings, all of which reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Flu shots are offered during the fall and winter. SNAP Registrations Partnering with Feeding Westchester, the Pantry provides quarterly, on-site assistance with registration for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as Food Stamps). For clients 60 and older, we can arrange for a Feeding Westchester representative to make on-site visits to their homes. WIC Registrations Working in collaboration with Open Door Family Medical Center of Ossining, the Pantry provides monthly, on-site pre-screenings for registration in the federal food aid program WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).
