Edgy Ideas Africa is a Social Enterprise with the vision to Redefine Education in Africa through Strategic Interventions aimed at Improving Learning and Teaching such that the Essence of Education Transpires. We carried out a survey to find out why the number of schools in Africa and the consistent increments of students enrollment don’t add up to glaring developmental effect on the state of Africa and the following were our findings: 1. 9 in every 10 student we interviewed at the tertiary level of schooling never knew why the were in school or studying the course they were studying - they only wanted to graduate and get a Job. 2. Academics had overshadowed Education. 3. We have Educators who are not proud of teaching and would leave the Teaching profession for any Job that could pay them $12 more than their current salary - This is the reality of 8 in every 10 teachers we engaged. 4. The curriculum isn’t relevant to the present world and hence prepares the students for the past. 5. 9 in every 10 secondary school student in Africa don’t know why they should be in school beyond “To acquire knowledge” which is practically a cliche in Africa. Further questioning gets everyone quiet. - Schooling has just become a routine without any essence in Africa. Many more were in our findings and we have so far created several interventions aimed at arresting the situations out listed above. Our interventions are summed up in our Super 8 Projects : 1.
