Long Island Community Foundation is the local office of The New York Community Trust – one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the country – consisting of more than 2500 individual charitable funds set up by individuals, families, and businesses that together value more than $3 billion in assets. Combined, the organization grants out more than $200 million annually. We do this based upon our donors’ recommendations made through either their donor-advised funds or through permanent funds they establish to carry out their philanthropic intent that keeps their legacy alive long after they are gone. Since 1978, we have been working closely with area nonprofits and understand their strengths, weaknesses, impact in the community, and financial soundness. Our careful evaluation of giving opportunities, along with our comprehensive review of an organization’s governance and finances, provides our donors with a highly effective grantmaking process. We provide responsible financial management and personalized service, making it easy for our donors to support issues and causes most meaningful to them. And by handling all the back-office support (research, site visits, payment processing, tax filings, etc.) our donors’ experience is fun and rewarding without all the hassles. Our goal is to provide the stewardship that donors deserve and to ensure that their assets are invested and distributed wisely, whether to the arts, education, health, human services, the environment, or any other charitable causes.
