The Program in American Language Studies, Rutgers-Newark is the intensive English as a Second Language program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, on the Newark campus. PALS provides exceptional language and American culture instruction to students studying, living, and working in the United States. PALS offer Intensive ESL courses at six levels of proficiency from Beginners to High Advanced. The program also runs several academic courses, including English for Academic Purposes (EAP), TOEFL Preparation, IELTS Preparation, and a variety of electives. Matriculated international students can also take both graduate and undergraduate ESL classes while they are studying for their majors. Mixed-level Evening and Weekend classes are available to those who don't require a full-time program. PALS also administers the IELTS test on a monthly basis.
