Confederation of GST Professionals and Industries (CGPI) has thus been incorporated to form a national alliance of Advocates, Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Company Secretaries and GST Practitioners focused exclusively on GST. On the State level, Sales Tax Associations were doing an exemplary job and many such associations commanded the respect of the State VAT Commissioners in the erstwhile era. This was primarily because these Sales Tax Associations broadly represented the entire Sales Tax community throughout their States and were focused exclusively on Sales Tax. Unfortunately, it is the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Departments which have almost monopolized the policy-making, law-making and the administrative spheres in the GST regime. State level associations, including Sales Tax Associations, are inherently handicapped while dealing with the Central Government. On the other hand, there is no national association which is dedicated exclusively and full time to the cause of GST. CGPI as a national level organization, is in the process of creating this broader national level platform by inviting these leaders to join the confederation. Currently, the confederation has dedicated workers in 8 states who are toiling away at making this cherished dream a reality. In achieving its objective, CGPI does not intend to replace or substitute or in any way compete with any State level or other association. CGPI recognizes that these associations are already doing commendable work and that these associations are indispensable for the community as a whole. Our long-term aim is however to bring these various State level and other associations closer to each other. CGPI will always work in co-operation with these associations in representations as well as organizing educational initiatives throughout the country.
