Open Channel ApS
www.openchannel.dkOpen Channel an independent Danish DTT network operator in Copenhagen. Open Channel performing tests and operating terrestrial digital radio & TV in Copenhagen since 2006 on UHF channel 35 aka MUXCPH. As one of the first in Europe, Open Channel started trials of the next generation Digital Terrestrial TV standard - DVB-T2 in 2010. For this purpose Open Channel was actually forced to build a new suitable TV transmitter, as no DVB-T2 modulator was available at the market at a fair price. Spring 2012 - as the first in the world - launched concrete tests airing the next generation of digital radio on a so-called T-DAB frequency on VHF band III (VHF channel 9D), and mobile TV on UHF channel 39 based on the new standard DVB-T2 Lite profile. Spring 2016 the Mobile TV trial is also focused on deployment of HEVC, which is a new video compression standard, a successor to H.264. From spring 2019 the DTT trial is also focused on deployment of High Dynamic Range (HDR), which describes video having a dynamic range greater than that of standard-dynamic-range (SDR) and a new DTT trial with the American DTT standard ATSC 3.0. In 2019, Open Channel has also applied for permission to test the new digital radio standard DRM+ on the FM band in Copenhagen. We await answers to our application. The coverage area consist of 700.000 households, equal to 28 % of all Danish households.
