FareShare Greater Manchester

www.faresharegm.org.uk

Over 5.8 million people in the UK live in deep poverty, meaning that they lack access to healthy affordable food. At the same time, 3.9 million tonnes of surplus good food is sent for disposal by the UK food industry every year. National charity FareShare UK works with partners in the food industry to prevent this waste by distributing donated in-date food to people in need; helping the most vulnerable members of society, as well as working to protect the environment by reducing the volume of perfectly good food that goes to landfill. As the Greater Manchester arm of FareShare UK, we deliver surplus food to over 200 charities and community organisations, (our Community Food Members), across the city region, and new organisations are joining all the time. Our Community Food Members provide vitally-needed meals, food parcels and snacks to hundreds of disadvantaged people every day. They operate front line services, working with a broad cross-section of society; people who are facing hardship; the homeless, the unemployed, people dealing with substance abuse, the elderly, children, young adults, refugees and asylum-seekers; at drop-ins, residential centres, children's centres, and breakfast and after-school clubs. FareShare Greater Manchester also supplies local pantry projects and food sharing clubs. Our work is made possible through donations of food and employer-supported volunteering from our industry partners, and the tireless contribution of our teams of volunteers from the North West community. In October 2018 we will be celebrating ten years of getting supplies to frontline organisations in Greater Manchester.
