I extend a hearty welcome to the website of St. Alphonsa Cathedral. Our cathedral is dedicated to St. Alphonsa, the first saint of the Syro Malabar church. The Syro Malabar church is an Oriental Church which is one of the 23 constituent churches of the Roman Catholic Church and has its roots traced to the first century. The Syro Malabar worshipping community in Hyderabad has had its existence from the mid 20th-century consisting of migrant Syro Malabar Catholics from Kerala. This community was formulated into a parish in the 2000s. The new church building was consecrated earlier in 2017 by Mar Joseph Perumthottam, Archbishop of Changanacherry in the presence of Mar Raphael Thattil, the then apostolic visitator of Santhome Mission. In October 2017, The Holy Father erected the Eparchy of Shamshabad and appointed Mar Raphael Thattil as its first Bishop. Our church was upgraded to the status of Cathedral.
