Studio Slow
www.studioslow.chStudio Slow is a social enterprise and an itinerant curatorial project focusing on master craftsmanship as art. It works as a platform for contemporary craft and collectible design, whilst showcasing works by renowned and emerging contemporary female craftsmen, artists, designers and architects. The purpose of Studio Slow is to develop inclusive markets (IMD) by engaging artists, designers, architects and artisans in Europe, North, Central and South America (as producers, collaborators or business partners along the value chain —with a focus on women), while promoting dialogue and exchange in Switzerland —through a traveling curatorial program, exhibitions, events, research, publications and talks; and increase the visibility of contemporary craft as art and the role of women in it. Studio Slow's mission is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular gender equality, reduction of inequalities, decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and no poverty. To this end, it develops sustainable business models in multi-stakeholder partnerships with global and local profit and non-profit organizations, academic institutions and relevant creative communities. Craft is an integral part of precise cultural contexts and art/design worlds, and Studio Slow approaches its craft studies, as well as its curatorial practice, with an interdisciplinary exchange —between craftsmanship, decorative art, contemporary design, materials, gender studies, economic development and circularity, social history, postmodern ethnography and visual/cultural anthropology.
