Literacy Lubbock is a non-profit education and human services agency which was organized in 1989. It has been a partner agency of the Lubbock Area United Way since 1999. Literacy Lubbock provides Adult Basic Education in Beginning Reading (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), GED Study (all subject areas), Dyslexia Training, and Early Childhood and Family Literacy programs and events at no cost to adult learners or children. Literacy Lubbock provides individual volunteer tutors or small classroom instruction to adult learners who request our help to enable them to achieve their personal literacy goals. By carefully matching trained literacy volunteers with adult learners in both tutor and adult learner paired settings and additionally in classroom settings, Literacy Lubbock is able to provide personalized study through high impact individualized prescriptive lessons, books, and training for interested individuals in a very cost effective manner, and at no cost to our adult learners.
