Fathers House Kids (www.fathershousekids.org) is charitable organization located in New Orleans, LA USA. We are exempt from federal income taxation under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and classified as a public charity. Fathers House Kids (FHK) is a life changing resource for underserved boys ages 6-18. We have over 100 children who are signed up with a typical weekly attendance of 50-60 children. Many of the boys are fatherless and nearly 95% of them benefit from some type of government assistance, whether be welfare, food stamps or Section 8 housing. Through Father’s House Kids, these boys are taught the value of hard work and are introduced to critical thinking and the importance of building on subjects taught in school. FHK holistically approaches preparing the youth with the prerequisites that are not being taught in their homes or in local school system yet are required to be successful in most careers. This is a hands-on program where math and science are taught as the boys work on projects. Fathers house kids uses a carpentry lab, makerspace lab, robotics lab, Process technology & Mechanical Lab and health and fitness lab. These skills build upon each other to prepare boys for Electrical and carpentry apprenticeship programs with a focus on using skills such as CNC machinery to assist in Historic Restoration in New Orleans. In addition, students visit local companies, engineering firms, construction sites, and industrial companies where training is conducted by professionals. Apprenticeships in the trades are available to those who meet specific criteria. The organization is 100% volunteer with no paid staff.
