Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies
www.ochs.org.ukThe Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies (OCHS) is a global leader in Hindu Studies. We are committed to the academic study of Hindu cultures and traditions in all periods and parts of the world. Here, all ideals and ideas are open for discussion and examination. As an academic institution, the OCHS is not affiliated with any religious or political group and welcomes staff, students, and visitors of all backgrounds. Teaching Hindu Studies and Indian Languages are core activities at the Centre. Our scholars teach a wide selection of courses for the Faculty of Theology and Religion and the Faculty of Philosophy, Oxford University. Our scholars also supervise graduate and doctoral students from the University of Oxford and other Universities in the UK and abroad. Our unique scholarly environment opens the way to ground- breaking research and interdisciplinary fields of study. The Centre is well regarded for its ability to interface modern academia and traditional Indian modes of scholarship. We are currently home to 19 research projects in the fields of history, text translation, philosophy, religion and sociology, directed by first-class scholars from prestigious universities around the world. To facilitate these projects, we have hosted 10 international conferences and are currently planning three more. Among others, we hold an annual conference at the centre for “Sanskrit Traditions in the Modern World”. We also host seminars, lectures and readings every term which all contribute to the academic discourse within the field of Hindu Studies. The OCHS offers two Visiting Fellowships per term adding six visiting scholars each year to our already rich pool of tutors, teachers, and researchers. Since 1998 we have hosted more than 110 visiting fellows and have become home to 33 research fellows from universities around the world.
