The Leidse ReddingsBrigade (Lifeguards of Leiden) was founded in the year 1918. Since that time, the Leidse ReddingsBrigade has become an active society with about 600 members and junior members. Although Leiden is not situated at a sea, there is a lot of water near where anything can go wrong. The Leidse ReddingsBrigade attempts to reduce the number of drowning victims by providing different (swimming) trainings and by monitoring the water, like the canals in Leiden and the Kagerplassen.
