The Institute for Futures Studies is engaged in the production of a knowledge base focusing on issues of importance for the future, and also actively promotes debate about the future. Our current research program “Which future? Challenges and choices for the 21st century” comprises five overlapping themes. They are all interdisciplinary and involves researchers from several disciplines, including philosophy, political science, sociology, law, computer science, economics and demographics. The intention is to produce policy-relevant results by combining theoretical ideas with empirically oriented research. The themes are "Our responsibility towards future generations", "Democracy in the 21st century", "New technologies and the future of humanity", "Discrimination, sexism and racism" and "Equality".
